Shakespeare Ghost Town Guided Tour
June 9 & 10 Location: Lordsburg NM
Shakespeare Ghost Town is the remains of a pioneer southwestern town. From a small settlement on the stage and emigrant trail to California, it grew in 1870 with a silver strike and the diamond swindle to a town of considerable size under the name of Ralston City, or the Burro Mines. In 1879, mine promoters changed the name to Shakespeare and prospered until the 1893 depression. The town has been owned since 1935 by the Hill family and they have tried to preserve the old buildings and history without commercializing the place. A guided tour of the buildings takes 1 1/2 hours. Admission fee is $4 for adults and $3 for children ages 6 through 17. Tours are at 10 am and 2 pm Phone: 575-542-9034
